Why isn't my coupon working?

We are receiving reports of problems with Biblio coupon codes. The issue has been brought to Biblio's attention. Meanwhile, if you have a valid coupon code and you are unsure if the Biblio system registered your discount, please re-enter the code in the "comments" field right before you complete your order. We will manually apply the coupon code for you upon processing your order. Thanks and we hope to see this issue corrected shortly.

What is the quickest way to reach you?

We are in the office at odd and unpredictable hours of the day and night - which makes returning phone calls difficult. Email is much easier for us to respond to in a timely fashion and is the quickest way to reach us.

Can I come browse in person?

We are strictly an internet business, and are not set up for walk-in customers. However, photos are available online for the majority of our inventory and we are more than happy to send additional photos and/or answer any questions you may have before making your online purchase.

Are you buying or accepting books?

Essentially, no. We aren't buying books or even accepting donated books right now. However, please feel free to email if you feel you may have something exceptional that might tempt us. For donations, may we suggest your local library (most sell what they can't use).

I noticed the same book on three different sales venues (Biblio, ABE, and Amazon) with three different prices. What is up with that?

The cost of doing business varies by venue and, when those costs are lower, we pass the savings on to you. Generally speaking, our best prices and largest selection are through Biblio.

How about a discount?

Our prices are firm (haggling is a dying sport best reserved for garage sales and car dealerships). However, prices do differ by venue and, generally speaking, our best prices, and largest selection are available through Biblio.

Do you have the title/s or author/s I'm looking for?

While we are happy to answer this question, please know that our entire inventory is posted online where you can search and get an immediate answer to your question (use the search box on our home page, or go to Biblio).

Signed or inscribed?

Signed: A contributor, usually the author or illustrator, has written their name somewhere on the item, most often on the front free endpaper, half-title page or title page. For example: "Signed and dated 11/12/06 by Daniel Handler on the title page". This differs from "Inscribed" in that a signed item will bear only the signature (and possibly the date signed), as opposed to an inscribed item which will contain a short note from the contributor as well.

Inscription: Signed, handwritten statement from the author (unless otherwise stated) to a specific recipient. For example: “To Scott Best Wishes Joyce Carol Oates”. Usually appears on a front endpaper, half-title or title page.

Gift Inscription: Signed, handwritten statement, usually appearing on a front endpaper or half-title page, indicating the book was a gift. For example: “Christmas 1972 For Scott Enjoy! Grandpa and Grandma”.

Presentation Copy: A book with a signed, handwritten statement from the author (unless otherwise specified) indicating the book was a gift. For example: “Christmas 1999 For Scott Stephen King”

Association Copy: A book with a signed, handwritten statement from the author (unless otherwise specified) indicating the book was a gift from the author to a person of some renown. For example: “To Joyce Carol Oates from Stephen King, December 1977”

Will you accept books from me as payment for my order?

We are now a one income family and books (despite how much we love them) don't taste very good for dinner. So, no, we can't accept books as payment.

Are you taking special orders?

We hope to be able to add this service in future.

Do you carry audio books?

We may have a few in inventory, but generally we don't carry audio books. If you are local, we highly recommend All Ears Audio Books in the El Paseo Shopping Center, San Jose. Be sure to tell them Handee Books sent you!

Do you keep my credit card number on file?

We keep credit card numbers on hand only as long as it takes to process your order (this means you'll have to give it to us each time you order, but we think the small hassle is worth the added protection).

I have a book that seems to be similar to one you have listed; how can I tell if mine is a first edition, first printing?

It is extremely difficult to evaluate a book sight unseen and, truth be told, we simply don't have the bandwidth to try to do so at this time. We will consider adding this service at some point in the future.

Do you do local appraisals?

Not at this time; we hope to be able to provide this service (for an hourly fee) in future.

Why are you asking for a billing address and/or security code?

Unlike most dealers, we process our own credit cards and use address verification systems (AVS) to do so. In addition, we use card verification methods (CVM), commonly known as security codes (three or four extra digits imprinted on the back of the card), to help make sure that the person using your card actually has the card in hand. In fact, our credit card processing vendor automatically declines transactions submitted without the code. Security codes aren't displayed on statements or receipts which are still the most common sources of stolen credit card numbers (according to Forbes). These are just two of many steps we take to protect all our customers against unauthorized credit card charges and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

When/how did my order ship?

Watch for an email notification from our shipping department letting you know your order has shipped and (for domestic orders) providing you with a tracking number. Please make sure your spam filters aren't deleting msgs from our domain (handeebks.com). Standard domestic shipping = USPS Media Mail.

Are you hiring?

We are absolutely thrilled that some of you actually want to work here! However, we don't have any openings at this time.

What about cyber squatters?

Our domain is handeebks.com (handeebooks.com has been taken over by cyber squatters).
